Summer to Fall 2020!

 My Dearest Evan,

Oh my, little guy – I swear you are two going on five right now! Last time I wrote, we were in the middle of a whirlwind called Coronavirus……and we’re still in that whirlwind. You are at home with dad every day now, which was always a part of the plan. However, it currently includes Avery going to school from home full time and no playtime with other friends! You’re getting used to it and you even join in on some of Avery’s classes like gym and kenpo, but you still talk fondly about Ms Patsy and your friends L. We had always planned on you starting preschool at Leman when you turn three but with this virus, we are likely to delay that. You will benefit from the social interaction but we will make sure it’s at the right time, based on what’s going on with this crazy virus. You were still able to start back at swim lessons in September, so you get some socially distanced swim time each week. These last few months before you turn three are the last ones I get to be in the pool with you while you get your lesson so I’m trying to milk them for all I can!

You’ve really started to show your personality more and more lately too. You’re very precise about how things need to get done and you’re proving to be more and more like me every day. If things don’t go the way you want, you scream and get mad (which is also like me, at least pre-kid me). You like wearing your superman shirt all the time and you introduce yourself as “Evan Big Dog” because daddy calls you “Big Dog”.  You’re very articulate, I think because you have a big sister to teach you the ropes. You’ve also started correcting us when we say something that contradicts what you know (i.e. we call it a car and you correct us and say it’s a truck).

You still suck your thumb and you still like to rub your soft skin when we’re changing you (love that baby skin). One of my most favorite parts of the day is waking up early to watch the news (or cartoons) and drink my coffee while cuddling with you. You’re an early riser too so it’s typical that you wake up early with me. You’ve also started kissing back when I try to give you a kiss. You are very careful and gentle about it – it’s so cute! You’re also really good at remembering where you put things, which has come in handy more and more now! You prefer short sleeves or long sleeves pushed up and you really don’t like it when you have one of Avery’s or one of my hair on you. You also like to click your tongue at the end of a statement, as though you’re putting a final period on your statement – it’s very defining!

While Avery does her school work, you do some learning too! You’re working on your numbers and letters and you’ve got a few cute songs down. I remember one day I was starting work and I heard you and Avery singing the muffin man….it was the perfect way to start my day! Next up will be potty training! You love Paw Patrol and Greatest Showman right now.

We are just finishing up a socially distanced week in Park City, where we rented a house and visited the mountains, the Olympic training center, a farm where we picked pumpkins and pet animals, and played in the real grass and hot tub at the house we rented. It was not the same as a regular trip of ours but still lots of fun and a good chance to get away for a bit!

Next up will be Halloween – you haven’t decided if you want to be a spooky ghost, Superman or Chase from Paw Patrol yet. We’re not sure we’ll be doing trick-or-treating but we’ve got some other plans up our sleeve to still make it fun and memorable for you and your sister.

Here’s your life in pictures right now…….
