Starting Third Grade!

 My Dearest Evan,

Time is flying so quickly, I feel like we just went to Europe! Now it's mid-October and the last day of your fall break as a third grader!

You're into a lot lately, with hockey starting back up and now you've started fencing - and even competed in your first fencing tournament! You're also still an avid builder/maker - you just can't stop yourself. Every time we're in Home Depot, you want to go to the wood section - and you're so confident in picking out what wood you want for your next project. You get incredibly mad when the idea in your head doesn't match the reality of what you make but we work through those challenges. You're definitely an inventor at heart.

You're a fierce lover of Pascal and really any animal. You have stopped saying one of your last "little boy" words wrong ("panpake" is now officially "pancake" as much as I'm not a fan)! You like rewatching our family movie night movies the entire rest of the weekend (any chance you get), and you are our designated mail retriever (you ride your bike to the mailbox - it's a bit of independence we can give you). You won't admit to any crushes right now and your best friend at school is Rihan.

You don't like reading or doing your schoolwork but once you learn something, it's engrained in your brain for good. You're learning about Greek mythology in school and despite actually going to Greece this summer, you talk more about what you're learning in class than you did when you were actually there!

You have some self-doubt too. When we reprimand you for starting something with your sister or for doing the opposite of what we asked you to do, you say it's because you're stupid or something like that. We remind you that that is 100% not true - that you are smart and a good person - but even good people have bad moments. I hope someday you see it this way too.

And, finally, we redid your room this week. We painted it navy blue, like you've been asking for a while. Your new bed with lots of storage is coming in 2 months so we won't hang anything on the walls until then but it's now ready for it and will be so nice when it's finished!

Here's your life in pictures right now...
