My Dearest Evan,
I can't believe it but you're still growing, whether I like it or not! After we got back from our big summer vacation, you started preschool! You tested it out a few times during the summer to get acclimated. It was not the easiest of transitions for you, because you thought Dad was going to stay there with you and play. You haven't really liked him leaving you there -- and you've gathered that around lunch time he comes, so you start to get anxious and miss him around that time. You have cried when he gets there, mostly out of relief that he's there to get you (you say "I MISSED you" and hug him really tightly). You're getting better and Dad has figured out a way to get you to do your handshake instead, which keeps you from tearing up. You're also making some great friends there, even with attending just two days a week, so that helps a lot too! On the first day, we got your picture by the sign out front and now you pose for one every day.....so we have a picture from every day dropping you off in front of the school sign! Ha, I wonder when you'll figure it out that you don't have to do that. It's cute in the meantime!
You're also getting way better on the scooter and trike! You're so good on the scooter that you can come on my workout walks with me now! You also scoot back and forth in the garage while I'm rowing! I love having you in there with me - you like to show me your new moves!
You still talk like a little kid, saying things like "I wuv you too" and you call preschool "my first day of school" every time! Phrases you like to say now are "you got a deal" and "oh biscuits" and "easy peasy rainbow squeezy" and "no" (which is my least favorite). You can be mean to me sometimes, less so to Dad and I'm not sure why that is. You will wipe my kisses off or push me away. But I think you know I will always love you no matter how much you push me away.
You started soccer this month too! I think watching Avery all these years has really helped you understand what to do, as many of your peers don't quite get it yet. But, you don't really have any interest in going after the ball when an entire group is chasing it. You're find just running around after the ball or near the ball - you don't seem to want to kick it then.....but it's the first week so we'll give it some time.
You love playing with your dollhouse (fireman and police officer - you're always the police officer) and you love playing Candyland. You're good at cleaning up after yourself (which Dad worked really hard on with you) and you just love your sister more than anything else. You also love Pascal but you're still learning the things to do and what not to do.
We also took Dad on a trip for his 40th birthday: we took him to Pittsburgh to see his Pirates play in their home stadium over Labor Day! It was our first time flying as a family since COVID hit us. You did not do so well on the planes because we had to wear masks and you wanted to suck your thumb to go to sleep but you couldn't. It was pretty hard to fly with you but we made it through and you'll get better with time. We had a lot of fun. The science center there was amazing - we even got to tour a submarine!
Here's your life in pictures right now.......

Well, bud, we have even more fun in store for the next few months. I can't believe you're almost FOUR! As you grow, I'm going to miss the way we have our morning cuddle sessions with my coffee and your strawberry milk. I'm also going to miss the way you talk like a toddler and the way you stop in the middle of changing when you're naked to run across the house to the guest room to go potty :) You're a funny dude. I'm trying to enjoy as much as possible with you right now!
All My Love,
Mom
